Members of the Pennsylvania Wilds
Artisan Workgroup are working to locate local artisans throughout the
region for inclusion in an Artisan Development Program being created for
the Pennsylvania Wilds.
The goal is to help develop a work plan that will assist
local artisans with marketing their creations and artwork through
cooperative marketing efforts. This project builds on ideas utilized in
other areas throughout the United States of generating increased sales for
locally produced products and artwork. Future plans will consist of
recommendations for a web retail site, regional retail facilities, gallery
development, product marketing and branding.
Local artists in
all artistic disciplines and medium are encouraged to participate.
Examples include: custom cabinetry, pottery, photography, woodturning,
sculpture, quilting, folk music, weaving, and more. Of particular
interest are items with intrinsic “Made in Pennsylvania” qualities.
This is a joint effort within the Pennsylvania Wilds, partners include:
the Lumber Heritage Region, the Route 6 Heritage Region, regional tourist
promotion agencies, Penn State Cooperative Extension, various arts
organizations, individual artisans, regional economic development
agencies, and numerous other organizations. Counties included in this
project are: Cambria, Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk,
Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, Lycoming, McKean, Potter, Tioga and Warren in
addition to the other counties along Route 6.
The Pennsylvania Wilds Artisan
Development Program recently received national attention from an article
in the December issue of Woodshop News. |
