  Pennsylvania Wilds

Recreation Team is charged with the implementation of the Recreation Plan for the State Parks and State Forests in the Pennsylvania Wilds

Fully assembled as of May 2006, the primary goal of the PA Wilds Recreation Team is to implement the recommendations of the Recreation Plan for the State Parks and State Forests in the Pennsylvania Wilds in order to improve the delivery of outdoor recreation across all DCNR lands in the PA Wilds region.

Among the PA Wilds Recreation Team’s many objectives are to provide assistance to parks and forests on specialized recreation issues such as trail design, signage, interpretation, recreation programming and public information. The team will work to improve and expand recreational opportunities in the PA Wilds by coordinating the enhancement of visitor services and coordinating partnerships with other agencies, organizations, businesses, and landowners.

The Recreation Team is made up of five individuals selected from DCNR staff. Three of these five members come to the PA Wilds Recreation Team from DCNR’s Bureau of State Parks while two of the members are on board through DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry.

Team leader, Dana Crisp, holds a bachelor’s degree in park and recreation administration and program management from Michigan State University. She began her career with the Bureau of State Parks in 1994 as an assistant park manager at Nockamixon. She was named Sizerville State Park Manager in April 1997, and became leader of the PA Wilds Recreation Team in 2005 with her promotion to the newly created position of assistant regional manager.

Tom Hanes began his career with the Bureau of Forestry in 1989 as an intern. After graduating from Penn State in 1992, he worked in the private sector before resuming employment with the Bureau of Forestry in the Susquehannock State Forest. He later transferred to Elk State Forest and in February of 2004, he was promoted to assistant district forester in the Sproul State Forest.

Jim Hyland has been working for DCNR since 1998, when he was hired as a recreation forester in the Tiadaghton State Forest. He was promoted to assistant district forester in 2004, and recently joined the PA Wilds Recreation Team as a Program Specialist. Jim has a B.S. in Forest Science from Penn State.

Tim Morey started his career with state parks at 15 years of age as a lifeguard and lifeguard supervisor at Lyman Run State Park for 5 summer seasons. After graduating from Lycoming College, Tim began work at Leonard Harrison State Park, providing a variety of visitor services and programming. Currently he is an environmental education specialist at Lyman Run and Cherry Springs State Parks and a member of the PA Wilds Recreation Team.

Eric Rensel obtained his B.A. from Penn State and then began his career with the Bureau of State Parks in 1989 as an environmental interpretive technician at Parker Dam State Park. He was reclassified as an EES in the mid-1990s, and has now taken on the challenge of the PA Wilds Recreation Team.
