The
Susquehanna Riverwalk Project first envisioned by the Lycoming
County Planning Commission and the Board of Commissioners for
the County of Lycoming in 2000 is an approximately 4 mile long
paved bikeway/walkway loop along the levee system in the City of
Williamsport, Borough of South Williamsport and Loyalsock
Township with river crossings along the new Market Street Bridge
and Maynard Street Bridge.
The $ 2.3 million project sponsored by the County of Lycoming is
primarily funded using a combination of federal and state grants
administered by PennDOT and PA DCNR. The project also
incorporates the Timber Trail amenities funded under the Lumber
Heritage Region and other local organizations such as
interpretative signage, benches and a woodhick sculpture by
Muncy artist, Pam Madia Barner, showcasing our region’s rich
lumbering era. This life size sculpture will be rendered in
bronze and will be placed on the trail.
Additional opportunities for public art along the Riverwalk may
be incorporated in the future. The Susquehanna River Walk and
Timber Trail projects lies within the State’s Lumber Heritage
Region, Pennsylvania WILDS and the Susquehanna Greenway System.
Larson Design Group is the project engineer and Eastern
Industries is the construction contractor.
Construction is expected to be complete by late Fall 2009.
