      Who We    Are -

The Organization

Designated in 2001 as one of Pennsylvania’s twelve Heritage Areas,, The Lumber Heritage Region of Pennsylvania (LHR) is a local grassroots project with the purpose of highlighting and interpreting the rich cultural, historic, natural and recreational resources of Pennsylvania's forests. The LHR is premised on the fact that the region has significant sites, places, communities, peoples, traditions and events it wishes to share with its neighbors and fellow Pennsylvania's.
The LHR Vision Statement identifies the LHR as an internationally recognized forest community with a sense of pride in the our people, our quality of life, and the traditions of our rural heritage. Our sustainable forest is a destination that continues to provide unique opportunities for forest products manufacturing, education, research, and recreation. Linking forests, parks, historic resources, and communities, allows residents and visitors to explore our vibrant culture and contribute to a vital community.
Our Mission defines the LHR as a 501(c)(3) corporation, with a central Board of Directors. Comprised of fifteen counties, the LHR is divided into three subregions - Allegheny, Pine Creek, and West Branch- and functions as a partnership of local, regional, state and federal entities dedicated to promoting the heritage of Pennsylvania’s internationally recognized sustainable forest region.
   The Lumber Heritage Region:
Provides technical, educational, and financial assistance to communities, local governments, business institutions, and the general public.
Coordinates programs which interpret the region’s unique lumber history, celebrates its living heritage, and foster a greater understanding of the contemporary lumber and forest products industry and rural life
Works to enhance the region’s economy by providing forest management education; conserving and interpreting historic, natural, and recreational resources; and enhancing tourism in cooperation with local communities to make the region a better place to live, work and visit.
